The Jersey Golf Union and the Jersey Ladies Golf Association (JLGA) are inviting island golfers to swing into action and take part in the Jersey Island Games Golf Team golf day.

Sponsored by Standard Bank, the golf day was launched in 2009 to raise funds to assist in sending the Jersey Island Games squads to the Natwest Island Games in Aland. Following the success of the inaugural event which raised over £5,500 organisers are once again hoping to boost their funds for the next Games in the Isle of Wight.

Lynne Cottignies, President of the JLGA, said: “We saw an opportunity to raise the much needed funds to get our teams to the Natwest Island Games by organising a unique golf day that gave local golfers an opportunity to meet and play with some of the key island players. Having the opportunity to play against them in the par 3 challenge really appealed to people and we were delighted with the funds raised last year.”

She added: “We are looking forward to another fun day in June and are most grateful to Les Mielles Golf and Country Club and to Standard Bank for helping us to make this event happen.”

As sponsor of the Jersey junior golf team Claire Reid, director of marketing and communications at Standard Bank, explained their involvement in the golf day: “Jersey produces a very high standard of golfer and as part of our commitment to the communities in which we operate Standard Bank is proud to support the fundraising efforts of the Jersey Island Games Golf Team. The Jersey golfers did really well in Aland bringing home gents team bronze medals and the ladies individual silver medal.”

The event will take place on Friday 11th June at Les Mielles Golf and Country Club and all funds raised this year will be shared equally between the gents and ladies golf teams to fund their trip to the Isle of Wight in 2011. The entry fee is £200 for a team of four and following the golf all players will enjoy an informal meal in the Clubhouse.

There are a few last remaining spaces available and anyone interested should call Bob White (852062) or Juanita Adlington (07797771200)
