For the eleventh year Standard Bank will sponsor the Jersey Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s annual production which this year is “Patience”.
“Patience or Bunthorne’s Bride” will be performed by the Society from Tuesday 18th May to Saturday 22nd May at the Jersey Opera House.
Director Maria Stegenwalner is supported by home grown musical director John Shield to lead a cast of over forty in the opera which famously satirizes the "aesthetic craze" that developed during the 1870s. Cast members this year include Gitte-Maj Donoghue as principal soprano, St Brelade Rector Mark Bond as principal bass and Mike Halsey as the tenor lead.
Michael Blackie, Chairman of the Jersey Gilbert and Sullivan Society said: “We are most grateful to Standard Bank for its continued support which means we can bring the operas of Gilbert and Sullivan to life for the Jersey audience.”
Claire Reid, Standard Bank’s Director of Marketing and Communications, said: “We are delighted to once again support the Society and look forward to their production of “Patience”. Standard Bank has sponsored the Society’s annual production for the past ten years as part of its commitment to support the arts in Jersey.”
This will be the third time Patience has been performed by the Society which was established in Jersey 30 years ago. The opera was performed in 1998 at the Jersey Arts Centre and earlier, in 1989, at the Jersey Opera House with a number of cast appearing in all three productions.
The Society will celebrate its anniversary in October with a special concert.
