In 2011 the Jersey International Business School launched Club (N) ED Executive and Non-Executive Director Support, an exclusive series of director-specific training and networking events. The programme offers invaluable insight and advice, whilst providing an opportunity to discuss relevant matters with an experienced peer group.
After an auspicious start with a sell out programme in 2011, the second series will begin in October with Nicole Svatek, a human factors specialist who will be asking, “Why is it, that despite massive investment in systems and controls we can still discern the same causal factors in each financial sector’s crisis?”
Delivered by top industry speakers, the series comprises of 8 training/networking events between October 2012 and June 2013. This is an effective way to achieve essential CPD whilst bringing knowledge and skills up-to-date for directors’ own protection, also helping to ensure that Jersey does retain its premier offshore status by having the right skill-set in place. The new series will include a special lunch at Longueville Manor to celebrate Colin Powell’s contribution to Jersey’s economic development. Whilst being Adviser to the Chief Minister’s Department on international affairs, Colin is also respected throughout the offshore financial services world as Chairman of the Offshore Group of Banking Supervisors and as a representative of the OGBS at meetings of the Financial Action Task Force. Stephen Platt, Executive Director at the Business School comments, “No one individual has contributed more to the development of Jersey’s finance industry and thus its economy than Colin Powell. It will be an immense privilege to hear him reflect on the past 40 years and share lessons for the future”.
There is also an excellent opportunity for Club (N)ED members to meet Robert Mazur, Federal Agent on Operation C-Chase, best known for his infiltration of the Medellín Drug Cartel, which led to a dramatic takedown that shook the underworld. He will be sharing his experiences and offering members incredible insight to ‘The risks of entrapment for corporate officers’
Other speakers in the programme include:
Dr Gunther Thumann, Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Brevan Howard Capital Management Ltd and CEO of Brevan Howard Investment Products Ltd – ‘The future of the euro’
