Jersey’s winter ice rink officially opens to the public on Friday 18th December.

The Sure Skate rink, which will be based at Fort Regent from 18th December until 3rd January, will be officially opened by former England rugby player and winner of ITV’s Dancing on Ice, Kyran Bracken.

“I am delighted to officially open the Sure Skate rink here in Jersey and partcularly excited as this is one of three Sure Skate rinks to open this year,” said Mr Bracken. “It is thanks to the support of Sure that we have been able to provide rinks for residents of all three islands, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man for the first time. I am sure islanders are looking forward to 16 days of skating over the festive period.”

The Sure Skate rink, will take a team of five, approximately two days to complete, leaving islanders with a 35 x 18 metre pool of 67,000 litres of frozen water to have fun on this winter.

“We wanted our lead sponsorship of 2009 to bring the community together. Ice skating seemed an ideal project. People of all ages and abilities can enjoy ice skating. It’s a really fun, festive activity,’” said Graham Hughes, Chief Executive, Sure Jersey.

Sure Skate is being organised in conjunction with Kyran Bracken’s Ice Party and sponsors Sure and Nokia Siemens Networks. Since his win on the popular ITV1 show in 2007, Kyran has toured the country performing to thousands of skating fans in his own show, Kyran Bracken’s Ice Party. Earlier this summer, Kyran’s Ice Party visited Jersey alongside the Sure sponsored Kyran Bracken Skate School.

Sure customers can also enjoy half price skating. Each customer will have received a coupon code that entitles them to purchase two tickets at half price. In addition, Pay As You Go customers who port their number for free to Sure from any other network this winter will be given one free skating ticket! To book tickets online please visit
