Jersey Cricket, in partnership with Appleby, is pleased to announce that the Appleby Under 16 Indoor Cricket League 2010 is underway! This is the second year the league has been run after a successful debut in 2009.

The 2010 league started on Thursday 25 February, with the matches played at Le Rocquier School. The aim of the league is to strengthen the links between the Island’s secondary schools and cricket clubs, providing clear and competitive pathways for talented young players.

Four secondary schools are taking part, with teams of eight playing under the banner of their cricket club name: • Les Quennevais School/ St Ouen C.C. • Le Rocquier School/ Optimus C.C. • Haute Vallee School/ Sporting Club Francais C.C. • Grainville School/ Springfield C.C.

The league will last for six weeks, with each team playing each other twice. There will be a trophy for the winning team.

Chris Minty, Director of Jersey Cricket commented: “We have now been working with Appleby for three years, and have seen the Development Programme go from strength to strength. The indoor league for children under 16 years old was really well received in 2009, and we are pleased to offer it again this year. The league gives young players the opportunity to access cricket and the chance to get involved with the game and their cricket clubs. It is also proving to be an ideal ‘talent spotting’ opportunity.”

Michael O’Connell, Managing Partner of Appleby in Jersey added: “We are very pleased to continue to partner with Jersey Cricket. The indoor league has wide benefits, including the principles of team work and good sportsmanship embraced by the game of cricket. The cricket development programme forms part of our ongoing commitment to community-based projects and initiatives in Jersey, which will provide positive and long-lasting support for schools, sports development, and local heritage projects.”
