Lions Club Jersey President, John Le Maistre said: ‘Lanes are going fast with the annual rush to re-secure lanes so we are keen to ensure that no one misses out. January is a popular month to start preparing for the Swimarathon which makes this reminder to book early especially timely.’

The Swimarathon, which will be held at Les Quennevais Sports Centre from 11 to 15 March 2015, will see funds raised divided between a number of charitable causes. From the money raised 25% will be going to 15 charities offering activities for people with disabilities and 50% will provide respite holidays for local people and support general community service projects. The remaining 25% will be donated to Channel Islands Air Search, a charity with whom the Lions Clubs of Jersey and Guernsey have always been closely associated.

One of the beneficiaries is the Jersey Special Gymnastics Club. Yana Vibert, Head Coach said: ‘This kind of funding is very important to our club. Without it we would find it very difficult to offer our gymnasts the opportunity to attend competitions in the UK and help reach their full potential. The funds raised through the Swimarathon will be used to support a range of initiatives, including having our gymnasts and coaches attend training and access facilities we do not have within the Island.’

Chris Blampied, Head of Banking, RBC Wealth Management commented: ‘The Jersey Special Gymnastics Club is emblematic of how important the Swimarathon is to the Island as a community event and fundraiser. In addition to being a very fun event, the Swimarathon has benefited many Islanders through the funds it raises for local charities. I, along with a number of my colleagues, am looking forward to taking part in another successful event.’
