The Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon is fast approaching and members of the public have a chance to take part without actually running the 26.2 miles!
The Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon organisers have issued a plea to all islanders. In order to make the event happen the organisers need 50 people to help marshal the race. The organisers need 50 volunteers for the event to go ahead. Those interested in volunteering can either apply online through www.jersey-marathon.com/volunteering by downloading and completing the application form which should be sent to event organiser Kate Power at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively you can call 01534 505926 to receive the application form. If volunteers email Kate, they will need to include their name, address, age and mobile telephone number. There is a meeting on Tuesday 27th September 2011 at 6:30pm at The Town Hall for all of those interested in marshalling.
Volunteers are required to help marshal and direct runners around the scenic course, ensuring their safety, whilst some are required at the Relay Race change over points, and other volunteers are stationed at Weighbridge Place to ensure the safety of the crowds at the start and finish of the various races. Many volunteers have family and friends taking part and use the role as a good opportunity to cheer them on.
Ian Le Gallais, Veteran Marshal Manager, says:
‘This is the largest sign up year so far for the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon so more than ever we will need our volunteers. Each year we receive fantastic comments and feedback from volunteers who thoroughly enjoyed being part of the team and community event. As in previous years, all volunteers will also be rewarded with their very own goodie bags which are always very popular.’
