The Directors of Volaw are pleased to announce that Aly Shah has been appointed as a Consultant to Volaw in the GCC region. 

Volaw’s expertise in Islamic Finance is well known in the GCC region and Volaw has many years of experience in creating innovative Shari’a-compliant structures for Islamic clients.

Aly Shah has been tasked with providing Volaw strategic advice and assistance for the GCC region and will help to build on Volaw’s existing relationships and establish new business contacts in the area.

Indeed, Trevor Norman and Richard Fagan of Volaw were in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in March with Mr Shah attending various meetings. With an international career in law spanning over 20 years, Mr Shah has been based in the United Arab Emirates since 2008. Prior to establishing his own legal consultancy, he was a Partner at several law firms and was the Chief Legal Counsel and Company Secretary for an international bank with over 1,000 branches.

Mr Shah has significant transaction experience and dealings with family offices and financial institutions in the GCC and Asia. His areas of practice cover Corporate and Commercial Law, Banking and Finance (Conventional and Islamic), Infrastructure Projects, Mergers and Acquisitions, Information Technology, Restructuring and Insolvency, Energy, Oil and Gas, Joint Ventures, Private Equity and International Arbitration (under the arbitration rules of the International Chamber of Commerce, the London Court of International Arbitration and the Dubai International Arbitration Centre). He has contributed articles to various well-known international publications covering, amongst others, the U.A.E. law on Banking and Finance, Restructuring and Insolvency, and Anti-Corruption.

Mr Shah has been recognized in Chambers and Partners-Asia Pacific for his work in Banking and Finance, Corporate and Commercial and Private Equity.
