Volaw’s expertise as a leading provider of fiduciary services to Islamic clients was recognised at the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA) on 29 September 2016, when Volaw Group was named as winner of the award for Best Islamic Trust Formation Services.   The prestigious GIFA ceremony was held in Jakarta in the presence of H.E. Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia and many other dignitaries from the Islamic world. Volaw beat several rivals in the category to impress the judges with its commitment to servicing Islamic clients over the past 30 years, building significant experience and expertise within its dedicated team over this period.   Trevor Norman, Volaw Group’s Head of Islamic Services, was thrilled to win this award, saying: “Volaw is honoured to receive the award for Best Islamic Trust Formation Services 2016 as part of the Global Islamic Finance Awards, which recognises our work and our contribution to the development of Islamic finance over three decades. We are based in Jersey, but our reach is truly international in terms of our clients and their advisers with whom we work. I am especially proud of our staff’s commitment to maintain our reputation as one of the leading providers of trust and corporate services to the Islamic market. I am delighted that their work has been recognised in this way.   This award consolidates Volaw’s position as the Islamic fiduciary services provider of choice. As Trevor Norman stated: “Our client base is truly international, but we are particularly well known for our work in the structuring and administration of Shari’a-compliant funds and special purpose vehicles on behalf of Islamic financial institutions from the GCC.” Volaw’s recent work includes establishing and administering an increasing number of Shari’a-compliant structures to own commercial real estate, primarily in the UK, for institutions or small groups of investors.   Volaw’s long-standing expertise in Islamic finance has been recognised by many awards and commendations over recent years. Volaw was heavily involved in the launch of the ground-breaking Caravan I Limited Shari’a-compliant securitisation vehicle, which was awarded ‘Most Innovative Product’ at the Kuala Lumpur Islamic Finance Forum in December 2004, and received the runner-up award from International Securitisation Report for the Emerging Market Deal of 2004; at the London Sukuk Summit in June 2010 Volaw won the award for Best Islamic Administrator / Trustee for our work on Sukuk structures; and at the IREF Summit Awards in 2011 Trevor Norman collected the Islamic Real Estate Administrator / Trustee of the Year award.   For further information about Volaw’s Islamic Finance services, please contact Trevor Norman (tnorman@volaw.com).
