Chris Clarke, President of the Lions Club of Jersey, said: ‘We are delighted with this fantastic amount. It is an outstanding achievement and should be a source of pride for everyone who took part or donated money. The focus on children’s charities as the beneficiaries this year made the involvement of young swimmers particularly special.’Oakwell Children’s Respite Centre was selected as the main beneficiary of the funds raised and will receive a minimum of £25,000 to aid ongoing developments such as creating more bedrooms and upgrading the kitchen facilities. Meanwhile a further £25,000 will be split between 25 additional charity beneficiaries chosen by the Lions Club.

Chris Blampied, Head of Banking, RBC Wealth Management said: ‘The level of support and outpouring of generosity for this event never ceases to amaze me. We saw swimmers of all standards brave the water, cheered on by team members, family and friends, all in an effort to bolster funds raised and to be in for a chance of winning one of the coveted trophies. This has been yet another fantastic year and we would like to thank everyone that got involved.’

Each year, RBC Wealth Management gives an additional boost to the total funds raised by Islanders with a donation for every lap swum. ‘RBC Wealth Management is a long-term sponsor and active supporter of the event and their support, both through the donations and the tireless enthusiasm of their staff, is invaluable to us,’ added Lion Chris Clarke.

The Swimarathon took place at the Les Quennevais Leisure Centre from 12 to 16 March. Since the first Swimarathon in 1972, the event has now raised more than £3.2 million for local charities.
