Eleven students in the second year of Highlands College’s BTEC Business Studies course have spent two weeks learning first hand what a career in Jersey’s premier industry entails.
As part of Jersey Finance’s School Roadshow Programme, Your Life in Finance charts traditional career development from initial employment right through to retirement. A range of tasks are set during the week and Jersey Finance also encourages students to consider how factors such as promotion, marriage and children would affect their career choices.
The programme will end with a ‘retirement’ party at Jersey Finance’s office tomorrow (Friday 26th November) to which all students and their business mentors will be invited. Certificates will also be awarded to all participating students.
Ed Sallis, Principal of Highlands College, commented:
“The Life in Finance programme gives the students a clear idea of what a career within their chosen subject would involve and also gives them the opportunity to start thinking about the milestones and events that will possibly play a role in shaping their careers. This is the first year that the Highlands College BTEC Business Studies course has been involved with the programme and the students find it extremely valuable to experience a whistle-stop tour of potential career paths while working in a real business setting.”
