The second half of 2020 has seen the region returning to a new normality. Many businesses have adopted a hybrid working model, allowing both a blend of home and office working.

Small scale events and presentations are taking place albeit under strict guidelines, and the success of the careful re-opening of the region is shown in the relatively stable infection rates across all countries. As a result, we expect further relaxation announced in Q4 2020 and Q1 of 2021.

Jersey firms continue to advise both families and corporates on their international investments and structures. As family businesses and corporates address challenges in their regional operations and simultaneously review and restructure their international investments, particularly real estate investments, Jersey advisors are playing a critical role in assisting these families and corporates to efficiently navigate the myriad of international issues. The trust and relationships forged over many years are now paying dividend, as families and businesses primarily communicate with our members and make decisions on virtual platforms.

Our DIFC team remains busy undertaking and participating in strategic engagements both virtually and increasingly in smaller scale physical events. As travel resumes across the region, the team has also ventured on short-haul travel to key markets in the GCC to ensure, where possible, our on the ground engagement continues. We collaborated on the launch of AAOIFI’s ground-breaking three-year study on the global footprint and adoption of Sharia-compliant finance and investment structures globally.

An Kelles, Director for Asia, who has been on secondment in our GCC DIFC office since September 2020, has now permanently relocated to Dubai to take up the role of Director for GCC for Jersey Finance.

Our flagship Women in Leadership series turned three this year and. led by An, these were successfully held virtually this year with a more global outlook and focus. We also partnered with the Middle East team of International law firm Trowers & Hamlins to co-present a Funds focussed virtual event which was very well attended and which also allowed us to continue to present our funds proposition of the Jersey Private Fund as the vehicle of choice for investors and access to European Capital for those looking to raise funds.
