Top-tier Rankings for Six Ogier Teams in Jersey in Latest Legal 500 Guide
The Legal 500 UK directory recognises 13 Ogier lawyers as "leading individuals". The directory is compiled from submissions and thousands of interviews with general counsel and private practice lawyers.
Recognised in the directory are: Partners Katrina Edge, Jonathan Hughes, Julie Melia, Raulin Amy, Edward Mackereth, Emily Haithwaite, Niamh Lalor, James Campbell, Sally Edwards and Steve Meiklejohn are joined by Director of Local Legal Services Helen Ruelle and managing associate Kate McCaffrey.
Jersey Government Approves International Savings Plans Designed to Provide Better Futures for International Employees
Jersey’s Government approves the introduction of provisions which allow Jersey to launch new International Savings Plans (ISPs).
Effective from 1 January 2019, the innovative new plans, which have been approved by the Jersey tax authorities, enable multi-national and international companies to set up savings plans in Jersey for non-resident employees.
Appleby Jersey Acts in Ground-breaking Trust Litigation Decision
In a landmark decision the Royal Court of Jersey invalidated the settlors’ decision to revoke two Jersey Law trusts on the basis that the settlors’ were unduly influenced by a third party. Appleby Dispute Resolution Jersey Partner Fraser Robertson (pictured left) and Senior Associate Amy Benest (right), acted on behalf of one of the beneficiaries, the daughter of the settlor.
This appears to be the first occasion in which a court has declared a revocation notice, given by the relevant power holder to be invalid and of no effect and may have a wide reaching impact.

Launch of GCC Whitepaper on Wealth Structuring
Jersey Finance teamed up with Hubbis again to produce a new white paper on “Wealth Structuring and the International Financial Centres: Perspectives from the GCC”.
With an estimated US$1 trillion wealth set to transition between families and generations in the Gulf region over the next decade, immense opportunities await High Net Worth (HNW) investors and wealth management companies in the region. The white paper highlights the growing preference from HNWI clients to professionalise the way succession planning is managed, despite the perceived lack of preparedness. Against this backdrop, the paper suggests that forward looking IFCs that can demonstrate their dedication to transparency, ethics and quality will survive and prosper in this changing environment.

Jersey Records Biggest Offshore Deal Value in H1 2018
More money was spent on M&A transactions in Jersey than any other offshore jurisdiction in the first half of 2018, according to a newly released report, Offshore-i, by offshore law firm Appleby.
Jersey experienced a six per cent increase in deal activity, with a 411 per cent increase in deal value driven by the $62bn acquisition of Jersey-incorporated Shire by Japan’s Takeda Pharmaceutical – the largest offshore transaction of the first six months of the year.

Appleby Report Shows Jersey Deal Value Jumps in 2017
Offshore-i, an Appleby report that provides data and insight on merger and acquisition activity in the major offshore financial centres, shows Jersey experienced an 86% increase in M&A deal value in 2017.
The report focuses on transactions announced over the course of 2017. In addition to the rise in deal activity, it also found that 2017 was the busiest year on record for offshore IPOs.

We are always looking to the future and with that in mind, Jersey Finance has created a beneficial scheme, Life in Finance, that brings A Level students and Member firms together. In 2017, the 36 A-Level students from the five different schools that took part in the scheme once again learnt a great deal about the variety of roles available within the industry and gained valuable insights about a ‘life in finance’. Carey Olsen Corporate Finance Limited, a group company of offshore law firm Carey Olsen, was the leading listing agent for The International Stock Exchange (TISE) last year.
Carey Olsen Corporate Finance Limited acted as listing agent to 40% of all new issuers of debt securities during 2017, listing a third more new issuers and over 100 classes of securities more than the next listing agent.
