At RBS International (RBSI), part of NatWest Group, addressing climate change – one of the biggest issues of our time – sits at the heart of our strategy.

RBSI has a carbon positive status, and we also became one of the largest banks globally to date to have science-based emissions intensity targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (‘SBTi’). These have been assessed by the SBTi and used in the development of RBSI’s first-ever climate transition plan.

We exceeded our targets for climate and sustainable financing to drive practical, real-world outcomes for the clients and communities we support. We also piloted a market-first Green Revolving Subscription Credit Facility demonstrating our commitment to delivering innovative financing that supports investment in the transition to net-zero.

We continually work to embed climate into our risk management processes by enhancing our risk frameworks, and have also developed risk maturity ratings for climate to assess our progress.

Education is a core part of our strategy. We have a climate and ESG thought-leadership programme to help our clients, and to advance climate conversations across the industry more broadly. This includes our report on the adoption of science-based targets by alternative investment funds, which is now in its second year of publication, and our ESG podcast series. We have also leveraged our partnership with the University of Edinburgh to provide colleagues with climate change awareness training to understand the science behind climate change and how we can address it as a business.

Collaboration continues to be key as we drive our ambitions forward. We take a partnership approach to working with clients in Jersey, as well as Government and industry partners.

The Awards

The JFL Sustainability Awards serve as a great opportunity to celebrate individuals and organisations dedicated to making a positive impact, inspiring the sector to go even further in their commitment to accelerating the transition to net zero.

We were delighted to win the award for leadership in banking. It’s testament to the hard work of all our colleagues and validates our efforts to be the sustainable banking partner of choice. We also hope it helps amplify our influence, building trust among clients and partners who share our values.
