What Is Investment Banking?

Investment banking underwrites large financial transactions such as mergers, acquisitions and initial public offerings for companies, governments and other organisations. Investment banks will then facilitate assistance and advice to these entities in raising money against these transactions.

Investment banking is separate from investment management because investment banking is focused on helping clients raise capital from the market whereas investment management is focused on managing a person’s money to maximise returns.

Responsible Investing

Growing plant and money

Impact investing. Ethical investing. Sustainable investing. While these approaches to investment management have subtle differences, they share the same primary objective – to evaluate the risks and opportunities associated with environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors.

Many asset owners and managers in Jersey are committed to integrating ESG considerations into their investment analysis and decision-making. Firms like Affinity Private Wealth have taken this commitment a step further by embedding ESG into their entire business model, rather than focussing on responsible investing within one service line or offering. Through proactive stewardship, investment managers are also able to influence the companies they invest in, meeting with management teams and company boards to discuss their ESG standards and how to achieve them.
