What is a Fund

A fund is a pool of money that is allocated for a specific purpose. A fund can be established for any purpose whatsoever, whether it is a city government setting aside money to build a new civil center or an insurance company setting aside money to pay its customers’ claims. Individuals, businesses, and governments all use funds to set aside money. Individuals might establish an emergency fund or rainy-day fund to pay for unforeseen expenses or to set aside money for a specific person.

The majority of funds established in Jersey are investment vehicles focussed on alternative investments. Alternative investments are made in such assets as real estate, private equity or derivatives and are usually referred to as being those not made in equities or bonds.

Testimonials

Christina Hoyles

Christina Hoyles Senior Fund Accountant

"Working in Funds provides a great platform to learn transferable skills that can be used anywhere. I have learnt to be more organised, to be confident in coaching junior members of staff and provide on the job training to colleagues. The Funds industry is exciting as the industry continues to move quickly as the global platform for businesses changes. Working in Funds means every day is different, which sounds like a cliché, but I can go from preparing net asset values for assigned funds, to looking at performance management calculations, to then looking at day-to-day bookkeeping and internal processes."
