The new scheme is open to students pursuing legal courses, and those engaged in academic study as well as post-graduate legal qualifications.

Successful candidates will be given financial support towards their studies (in quarterly instalments), paid summer work placements at Walkers, advice from a mentor and support from the firm’s HR team and book vouchers towards the high cost of textbooks and course materials.

Partner Fraser Hern, the head of Walkers offices in the Channel Islands, said that as the firm continues to grow in Jersey and Guernsey, it is expanding its CSR commitments and putting down deeper roots in the wider community.

He said: “We’re launching this scheme to support talented people with their studies – and we want to hear from anyone who fits the Walkers way of doing things: commercial, relationship-focused and entrepreneurial.

“We’ve been running similar schemes for some time – in our Cayman office we train young lawyers and have helped 48 attorneys qualify since 1983 – and we have benefitted from forging relationships with talented people, some of whom have gone on to develop their careers with us, and some who have gone on to other things.

“We’re interested in hearing from anyone who thinks that they might benefit from our support, and we’d urge them to get in touch for a chat.”

Sarah Forbes, Walkers’ HR Director for the Channel Islands and London, said: “There are full details on our website and we look forward to hearing from students at all stages of their studies, and to meeting candidates for interview in March and April.”
