Jersey’s relationship with Africa is broad, deep, and based on shared interests. We’re represented in East and West Africa by our Director – Middle East, Africa and India, Faizal Bhana, and in South Africa by our Business Development Consultant – Africa, Dr Rufaro Nyakatawa.
To mark the end of another successful year for Jersey Finance and our Island’s presence in Africa, we recently hosted numerous events in the market to connect with contacts old and new.
In November, we hosted two exclusive networking dinner receptions led by Dr Nyakatawa in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Both events featured a keynote address from award-winning journalist, author and business speaker Bruce Whitfield. In his speech, ‘How to Get Lucky: Where Strategy, Opportunism and Grit Collide’, Bruce shared the most critical lessons he has distilled through analysing successful global businesses. He also touches on this topic in his recent podcast with Allan Wood, our Global Head of Business Development, Allan Wood, who also attended these events.
Whilst the Cape Town dinner was exclusive to our contacts, we partnered with the STEP Johannesburg and STEP Cape Town chapters for the networking dinner reception in Johannesburg. Dr Nyakatawa was joined by Hanna Marais, Director: Fiduciary, Legato Trust and Fiduciary Services PTY Limited to host the event.
Jersey Finance was proud to co-host two evening networking receptions in Mombasa and Nairobi in partnership with the British Chamber of Commerce Kenya (BCCK). The events highlighted the growing ties between the UK, Jersey and Kenya, as well as the existing strong links between the City of London and Jersey.
Both events were led by Faizal Bhana, our Director – Middle East, Africa and India, joined by Chris Hanlin, Director – Social Business Solutions East Africa Limited, in Mombasa, and Farida Abbas, Chief Executive Officer at BCCK.
Guests heard from senior keynote speaker, Isaac Kahara, Country Head – East Africa at UK Export Finance (UKEF).
