Ogier partners, Rachael Reynolds and James Campbell, spoke at the Legal Week International Private Client Forum 2019 for the world’s leading private client lawyers in Lake Como.

The two-day conference, which is sponsored by Ogier, explored topical issues faced by clients and practitioners and discussed the latest developments in the private client and trust industry.

On day one of the conference, Partner and Global Head of Dispute Resolution, Rachael Reynolds joined the panel “Hide and Seek: Gathering (and protecting) information in international trust litigation” providing a multi-jurisdictional analysis of information gathering tactics and procedures, legal privilege, discovery, and enforcement. The case study considered how to go about tracking down, on the one hand, and protecting, on the other, information about offshore trusts.

On day two, Partner and Global Head of Private Wealth James Campbell co-presented a breakout session examining “The role of asset holding structures and nuptial agreements in the cross-border divorce world”. Divorce represents a very real risk to family wealth and this session will consider how to establish a truly dynastic structure with the aim of protecting trust assets from divorce to include consideration of issues around the drafting of trusts and letters of wishes as well as consideration of current trends in the use of nuptial agreements. The session considered the pitfalls around the practical administration of trusts to ensure trust assets are not considered to be a resource of one party to a marriage.

Rachael and James said: “We were delighted to sponsor the International Private Client Forum which was one of the leading conferences for private client professionals to connect and discuss recent developments in the industry. It brought together the very best in the field, and is always a highly interactive conference due to the wealth of experience of the attendees”.

Partner Josephine Howe also attended the conference.

The conference took place at Ville d’Este in Lake Como, Italy on 14-16 November 2019.
