March saw the start of a few of our careers and skills initiatives.

We launched our Life in Finance work placement scheme, for local year 12 students. This scheme offers the opportunity to connect with the next generation of financial services workers and provide an insight into working for your firm.

We have seen great success with this scheme in previous years, with students securing full-time jobs after their studies and building up a network of firms to seek employment with once they leave school.

Every year we go out to all the local sixth-form schools and colleges to promote the scheme to students. In March we visited students at De La Salle, where we were joined by Warwick Gill from Alex Picot Trust Company who helped the students understand a little more about what the finance industry is all about, the different careers available and the different careers paths to finding the right job.

We also hosted our first Trident student for 2024. Our student from Beaulieu joined our marketing team for two weeks. They got to use their creative flare to help us create social graphics, worked on their writing skills, and wrote a blog about their work experience. They also got the opportunity to see how our events work behind the scenes and attended two of our local events as a part of our Ready summit.

We are now working on our other careers and skills initiatives for the rest of the year, getting our 2024 Rising Stars ready for the awards ceremony on Friday 24 May and helping Islanders ‘Reconnect’ with their career on Tuesday 23 April.

Make sure to keep up to date with all our careers and skills work on our website, or via our newly launched Connections Newsletter. If you are a Jersey Finance Member firm, or working in the local education sector, email skills@jerseyfinance.je to be added to our mailing list.
